How do we say more with less? When I write, I tend to be wordy. Four long convoluted paragraphs that could probably be summed up in one short sentence. As a designer, I was never trained to be a writer outside of a few college papers. But I know the power of words. And I believe in simplicity.
Written words form the basics of the design toolbox. One word of a poster, or thousands from a book. Good design requires good writing. If the message isn’t clear, or doesn’t communicate, how long can we rely on beauty of form to deliver the message?
Where is the balance between a crisp, to-the-point style, and thoroughly detailed and helpful written communication? The middle ground between minimalism and a doctoral thesis? The same thinking surrounding visual communication floods the mind of a designer. What can I take away? How can I make this simpler?
